In his youth, Walt Augustyniak was an avid reader of adventure stories. On his 17th birthday, he eagerly pursued further adventure by enlisting in the famed U.S. Marine Corps. Throughout his four year tour of duty, 18 months of which took place overseas, Walt found adventures following him almost every step along the way; some due to his training, some the uniform, and others just to dumb luck. After returning to civilian life and marrying his childhood sweetheart, Walt spent the next 50 years working in the fascinating field of atomic and nuclear physics research, thus culminating a life full of adventure. Walt and his son, Mike, who retired to help Walt publish his book, will also describe the process and major objectives in picking a publisher and making the book accessible to servicemen and/or veterans, researchers and history buffs.
