Sonia Sanchez is an American poet, activist and scholar. A leading figure of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s and 1970s, she's published over a dozen books of poetry as well as short stories, plays, children's books and essays. She was also an influential figure in the Civil Rights Movement. Her work is known for its innovative melding of formats, such as blues with traditional poetic formats.

In this program, learn about her life, her work and the ways she impacted both poetry and history. This event includes a Q&A session.

Sanchez will be introduced by Joylette Hylick, a prominent speaker and daughter of NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson.
